Phase 1: Visioning

Phase 1 focused on updating the overarching Vision from the Comp Plan. The Vision sets the overarching direction for decision making for future growth and investment in the County. The Vision will form the basis of future phases of work throughout the Comp Plan update. In Phases 2 and 3 we will look at topics related to future land use, transportation, and housing and the Vision will set the policy framework for the Plan and will guide each of those topics.

During Phase 1 we also conducted an existing conditions analysis to better understand the County today, so we can plan for the future and measure growth and change over time. The Mecklenburg County Community Story is a compilation of our existing conditions analysis and summarizes key statistics about the County today. The Community Story also includes a summary of the history of Mecklenburg County and a Population Forecast, looking ahead to the future.

Once adopted, the Community Story will become “part 2” of the Comprehensive Plan. Part 1 will consist of the Plan Vision, Goals, Strategies, and Future Land Use Plan.
